BELVIEVERE, IL. — One person is dead and 28 others are injured after the Appollo Theater collapses during a concert amid strong storms and winds that hit the Midwest.
Belvidere Fire Chief Sean Shadle said there were 260 people inside the Apollo Theater when the roof collapsed around 7:55 p.m.
Police say five people suffered serious injuries, 18 suffered moderate injuries and another five suffered minor injuries.
Police say others were taken to the hospital in private vehicles.
Governor of Illinois J. B. Pritzker tweeted: “My administration is closely monitoring the roof collapse at the Apollo Theater in Belvidere tonight. I have contacted officials for updates and referrals to any available resources. As we learn more, please follow the instructions of all local authorities.”
Secondary investigations are underway, none of the rescuers were injured.
