2 in custody for armed robbery and beating on CTA Red Line, CPD seeks more suspects
CHICAGO — Police are searching for a group of men who beat and robbed a man on the CTA Red Line early Saturday morning.
At 1:42 a.m., a man was heading north on the Red Line around the 1100 block of South State Street when four to six people approached him and asked for cigarettes, according to police.
The man said he had no cigarettes with him, and a group of men began beating him on the train, taking his personal belongings and a pack of cigarettes.
Later, when the train stopped at Roosevelt Station, the man got off and the group continued to beat him, police said.
One of the men pulled out a knife and was able to flee the scene. Two of the men were identified on CCTV and taken into custody.
The man suffered multiple facial lacerations and was treated at the scene. Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
