In response to a McClatchy News request for information, Superintendent Jared Hosmer wrote in an email that he “received information overnight about a car accident that killed four people, three of whom were students at Chattooga High School. Please pray for the families of all those affected by this terrible tragedy.”

The county said staff will be available to help others and announced it is planning an event offer support October 31. Counselors are expected to be on campus Nov. 1, according to a Facebook post.

“Broken heart is the only word it comes to mind as we lost 3 of our own,” the school’s football team wrote on social media. “Please pray for the families and friends.”

As of Oct. 30, state police continued to investigate the crash, which occurred around 12:30 a.m. along State Highway 114 near the northwest Georgia town of Lowerly.
