A 16-year-old boy was shot in the morning in Urban | Main stories

URBANA, IL (WAND) — A 16-year-old Urbana boy has died from a gunshot wound, according to the Urbana Police Department.

Around 1 a.m. Thursday, UPD responded to a report of a shooting with injuries.

Arriving officers found a 16-year-old boy with a gunshot wound to the head. First aid was administered until the Urbana Fire Department and EMS arrived to take over and transport him to the hospital. He was pronounced dead at Carl’s Hospital.

The victim’s identity will be released by the Champaign County Coroner’s Office at a later date. Urbana police officers and the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigation Unit jointly investigated this incident.

The department is asking the public to be patient while it gathers more facts related to the ongoing investigation. At the moment, there are no clear motives. However, UPD believes it was not an act of violence.
