According to police, the driver of Rideshare shot a potential car thief in the West Side

CHICAGO (CBS) – A driver who has the right to transport cars shot and injured a potential car thief in the South Austin community on Thursday night in the West Side.

Police said at 6:32 p.m., the driver – a 30-year-old man – picked up three men in his red Mitsubishi on Quarter 5,400 on West Van Buren Street. According to police, one of the men snatched a gun and demanded a car.

According to police, the driver of the rider shot from his own weapon, resulting in one suspect, also a 30-year-old man, hit in the forearm and thigh.

The shot suspect was taken to Cook County Stroger Hospital in good condition, police said.

Two other attackers escaped from a car that crashed into two other cars at the scene, police said. Later, one of the two suspected fugitive criminals was caught and taken into custody. Charges await.

The victim has a valid ID for concealed carry, police said.
