Americans are back on the highway for Thanksgiving | Main stories

DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) – Two years after the pandemic, Americans are once again traveling in large numbers for the Thanksgiving holiday.

“2.8 million people will travel to Illinois this weekend,” said Molly Hart of AAA WAND News. “Of these, 2.4 million will travel by car.”

Vehicles will clog the highways in their favorite gas guzzlers, even with gas prices well above 2021 levels.

“Gas prices are high. The good news is that they are falling. And here in Decatur, they’re down ten cents from last week to today. So that’s great news,” Hart said.

The most popular tourist destinations according to AAA this year are Orlando, Anaheim, Las Vegas, New York and Atlanta.
