Applications are now open for the Illinois Homeowners Assistance Fund | Main stories

CHICAGO (WAND) — The Illinois Housing Authority has announced that applications are now open for the Illinois Homeowner Assistance Fund.

Qualified homeowners who need assistance with late mortgage payments due to hardships related to the COVID-19 pandemic can contact illinoishousinghelp.org.

Until January 31, 2023, eligible households can apply for up to $60,000 in grants for late mortgage payments, property taxes, property insurance and home and/or condo owner fees.

“For more than two years, my administration has led the way in providing housing for those in need,” said Governor J. B. Pritzker. “By providing this assistance efficiently and quickly, we were able to make a difference for thousands of families across the state. With this next round of funding, even more Illinoisans now have a chance to maintain their homeownership status, opening the door for their children to thrive in the future.”

To qualify for ILHAF, Illinois homeowners must meet the following criteria:

• Be at least 30 days late on one or more mortgage payments, property taxes, property insurance, and/or condominium/condo association fees.
• Have a family income at or below 150% of the area median income.
• Own and occupy a home in Illinois as a primary residence.
• Experienced financial hardship after January 21, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic (including hardship that began before January 21, 2020 but continued after that date).

Payments will be made directly to the mortgage servicer, tax authority or other eligible entity upon approval of the homeowner’s application.

“To the people of Illinois who are struggling in these tough economic times and trying to pay their mortgages, we see you and we are taking action,” said Lt. Governor Julianne Stratton. “This program will provide valuable support and assistance to ease the strain many families are feeling, helping those who qualify to stay in their homes and keep our communities strong and vibrant.”
