The man was driving east just before 9:55 p.m. on the 100th block of West Chicago Avenue, near LaSall Drive and Clark Street, when a brown sedan drove up and someone inside started firing at the vehicle from the passenger side, the CPD reported.
The man was wounded in the abdomen, groin and right thigh, and Chicago fire crews took him to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition.
No one was detained on Friday morning.
Detectives of District Three are conducting an investigation.
On Wednesday, Chicago police confirmed they are stepping up patrols downtown as crime grows.
