Acting Prime Minister Chester Cooper on Friday issued a statement saying police were investigating and the cause of death was unknown, although “indecent play is not suspected.”
Initially, their identities were not published.
Health Minister Dr Michael Darville told the Bahamas Eyewitness News on Saturday that some hotel guests went to the clinic on Thursday with nausea and vomiting, received treatment and left. Three were later found dead. A fourth was taken to a hospital in New Providence.
He said environmental scientists, doctors and others are investigating to make sure there was no danger to public health.
“We believe that what we see is a single case related to a specific area,” he said, adding that investigators are conducting toxicological studies and blood tests to help determine the cause of the disease.

Cooper replaced Prime Minister Philip E. Davis, who was outside the country.
The head of communications for the office of Prime Minister Latra L. Ramming wrote on Twitter that the death took place in Sandals Emerald Bay in Exum.
In a statement to People magazine, a Sandals spokesman confirmed the death and said the company was “actively working to support both the investigation and the families of the guests in every way possible.”
There was no immediate further response to the Associated Press’s request to the hotel company on Saturday.
