City Council convenes with Chicago’s mayoral race up in the air
CHICAGO — The mayoral election will be held on February 28, and candidates can submit their petitions starting next week. For a while, the contest was overshadowed by federal and state elections.
But not anymore.
The city council met today with the 2023 municipal election up in the air.
The main event is the fight for the post of mayor.
“Obviously, we’re just a few months away from the primary date in February and we’re starting to heat up,” said Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot.
Now more than 10 candidates are competing for the 5th floor of the city hall.
Mayor Lightfoot is campaigning for another term in his first television commercials of the campaign. However, her claimants quickly rejected the ad.
“This is advertising. It must be fun,” Auld said. Roderick Sawyer (6thousand Ward).
“I think people get up early when there’s trouble on the water,” Auld said. Sophia King (4thousand Ward).
Lightfoot released the clips as the war for fundraising and support rages on. Cook County Commissioner Brandon Johnson is making a show of strength after securing the support of SEIU Healthcare of Illinois and the Chicago teachers union.
Another highly touted contender is Congressman Jesus Chuy Garcia, who entered the race last week.
When Lightfoot talks about her record, she’s not yet ready to contrast her rivals.
“I’m not worried about any of these people,” Lightfoot said. “What I have to do is do my job.”
