CPD officer injured in shooting incident in Lincoln Park

CHICAGO — A police officer was injured when a gunman stole his gun and tried to shoot him during a standoff in Lincoln Park Friday night.

According to police, officers responded to a report of property damage in the 2100 block of North Cleveland Avenue around 8:53 p.m., after which officers were dispatched to an alley where they encountered the offender.

Police say the man disarmed the officer and fired a shot during the altercation, but no one was injured. The officer was able to regain control of the weapon and the man fled on foot.

Soon the man was found, detained and taken into custody. The officer was taken to a local hospital for evaluation with minor injuries.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
