Instagram tries to reconnect with blocked accounts – Chicago Tribune

NEW YORK – Instagram said yes working on the question this left a seemingly large number of users locked out of their accounts on Monday morning.

Some users have reported seeing a message saying they’ve been blocked, but can still scroll through their channels. Other Twitter posts said they were shut down entirely. Some have reported that their follower count has dropped, presumably because these accounts have been banned.

The number of people complaining about being blocked started to rise around 8:30am ET.

It is not yet clear if the problem was an internal problem or if the social media site was hacked.

“We are aware that some Instagram users in various parts of the world are having trouble accessing their Instagram accounts,” a Meta spokesperson said. “We are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible and apologize for any inconvenience.”

Users flooded social media platforms about the issue, and Instagram acknowledged the issue on Twitter at 10:14 a.m. ET. Within a couple of hours, the tweet received more than 14,000 comments and was retweeted more than 40,000 times.
