Man arrested in Decatur animal cruelty case, charged with felony, misdemeanor | Main stories

DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — A Decatur man has been charged with one felony and six misdemeanors for allegedly leaving several dogs outside in extremely cold conditions.

Mark Miller Jr., 42, was charged with aggravated animal cruelty and six misdemeanor counts, including animal cruelty and possession by a felon of unneutered or vicious dogs.

On December 23, 2022, deputies responded to a call on North Taylor Road. after a concerned citizen called to report that there were several animals on the property suffering from severe cold.

Deputies said that the animals had no protection from the cold. The basic temperature was 1 degree, the wind – minus 16.

An American bulldog was found near death. He eventually had to be euthanized at the University of Illinois Veterinary Clinic in Urbana.

Four other dogs were rescued by Macon County Animal Control.

Richard’s next court appearance is scheduled for April 14 at 9 a.m
