A 26-year-old woman who was fatally stabbed on a CTA platform early Saturday morning in The Loop was able to identify her ex-boyfriend as the attacker before she died, Chicago police said Monday.
Alejandro Arellano, 31, was charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing at the Adams and Wabash “L” station around 1:25 a.m. Saturday, according to police.

Police said they were able to work with the CTA to use their tracking system to track down Arellano and took him into custody nearly 15 hours after the attack. Police officials were able to confirm that Arellano and the victim were dating.
First Deputy Police Superintendent Eric Carter said the victim was the “key piece of evidence” that led to Arellano’s indictment.
“We hope that knowing that the person responsible for her death has been brought to justice will bring some measure of closure and peace to the family,” he added.
The name of the deceased has not yet been released.
Police said there was no security at the scene, and while violent crime in the CTA was up 3%, they called Saturday’s attack an “isolated incident.”
