Overwatch 2 Beta gets a wide rebalancing of the characters after widespread fan complaints

The Overwatch 2 A beta version of PvP was launched last month, and so far the response has been mixed (at least). Although the main problem is the lack of new content, many say that Overwatch 2 is more like a patch than a real sequel, there have also been complaints about the balance. Most notably, while the tanks have been improved after the transition to 5 on 5, very little has been done to upgrade the support characters who now feel out of place in the new meta game.

Well, Blizzard has released a new update for the beta version of Overwatch 2, which focuses heavily on changing balance, polishing some supporting characters such as Zenyatta, and simultaneously recruiting some characters such as Soldier 76. Accommodation

We’ve seen a lot of players with different skill levels battling her alternate fire, so we’re making the width of the projectile wider. Sojourn is all about mobility, and we wanted it to move more freely on maps. We believe that this will help increase its efficiency and make it even more interesting.

Alternate Fire Railgun

  • The width of the projectile increased from 0.05 m to 0.1 m

Power Slide

  • Recovery time reduced from 7 to 6 seconds

Soldier 76

We believe Soldier 76 was reconfigured during the first week of the PvP beta. It was extremely mobile with new passive damage that increases movement speed by 10%. We have slightly reduced its Sprint ability, implying a new liability. Soldier 76 has always been a hero with high damage, but we see fewer counters in it with fewer tanks. We reduced the loss of his Heavy Pulse Rifle to adjust to 5v5.

We wanted to make Tactical Visor a more interesting final version for players who want to advance their aiming skills through ability. The point of this change is not just to strengthen it or balance the nerfs. We wanted to make the Soldier 76 game more interesting while rewarding the mechanical skills.

Heavy pulse rifle

  • Damage reduced from 20 to 18

Sprint

  • Movement speed reduced from 50 to 40%

Tactical visor

  • Now allows you to strike critical strikes if the shot was critical outside of its end point
  • No longer removes damage from his Heavy Pulse Rifle

Sombra

After a week of testing new passive damage, we decided to balance the speed of the Stealth Sombra with a 10% increase in movement speed.

Secrecy

  • Movement speed reduced from 65 to 50%

Warrior

We’ve seen that Roadhog doesn’t work, so we make its main version more interesting, effective and fun. Roadhog often dies using Whole Hog, so we try to give it more features and flexibility in its ult.

Whole lead

  • This ability has changed from the ultimate “Channeled” (e.g. Pharah, Reaper, Cassidy) to the ultimate “Transform” (e.g. Soldier: 76, Genji, Winston). Here’s what it means:
  • The weapon no longer fires automatically and you have to press Primary Fire to use the ultimate
  • You can use normal abilities during Whole Hog without undoing the final one
  • Stunning no longer undoes the final

Winston

Changing Winston’s secondary fire allows him to use it more often without sacrificing as much of his primary fire as possible. We want its secondary fire to feel less limited in use and smoother as its kit.

Tesla Cannon

  • The cost of secondary fire ammunition has been reduced from 20 to 12

Destructive ball

We return the rollback roll to its original value from the time the Wrecking Ball was launched. We wanted to give the Wrecking Ball a more unique role as a diving tank that can smash enemy teams. We made this change by referring to the Passive Passive Tank with 30% recoil resistance.

Roll

  • Rollback increased by 36%

Dawn

The Graviton Surge has fewer counters, one tank less per team, and phase effects no longer escape the Dawn ultimatum. We’ve noticed maximum inflated performance, so this change brings it in line with the 5 on 5 gameplay.

Gravitone burst

  • The duration is reduced from 4 to 3.5 seconds

Lucio

Lucia had incredible survival with Crossfade included in a new passive support role, so we reduced the amount he treats.

Crossfade

  • Penalty for self-healing increased from 30% to 60%

Batiste

Batiste doesn’t work because the teams now play aren’t so grouped. Increasing his medical ammunition will allow him to treat more targets that are not necessarily grouped.

Biotic Launcher Alt Fire

  • Ammunition for treatment increased from 10 to 13

Ana

Ana’s biotic grenade was too effective with a smaller tank and rarer barriers, so we shorten the duration of the ability. We also saw Ana less likely to use a grenade on herself because of her new passive support ability. To compensate for her grenade, we wanted to regain her strength by increasing the ammunition of her biotic rifle.

  • Ammunition increased from 12 to 15

  • The duration is reduced from 4 to 3 seconds

Day

Zenyata has problems with close combat, so he was at a disadvantage when the enemy bypassed him from the flank or jumped on him. His new passive ability, Snap Kick, will help him create space and put enemies on his combat range.

We believe that this new liability will be a fun adjustment to his kit, but we also want this change to recognize the challenges of society. We understand that 5 on 5 made support heroes feel more vulnerable, and we wanted to provide Zenyatta tools to help create a space between him and his enemies.

Snap Kick

  • New passive ability
  • Increases losses in fast melee by 50% and significantly increases repulsion
  • Base shields increased from 150 to 175

Brigitte

It’s hard to say when Brigitte will get hit by the shield because the impact of that ability wasn’t easy to spot. This is a subtle change that will make the ability more satisfying.

Shield Bash

The latest patch also includes many bug fixes. If you need to know about them, you can read the full notes on patches, right here. Most of all, Blizzard also promises more updates make the supporting characters more attractive

We’ve clearly heard that support players feel that both tanks and players who are harming have newer content that can be enjoyed and explored in this beta. In the long run, we believe the most effective way to address this is to add new exciting support heroes to the game, and that’s part of our plans. In the near term, our team of character designers is also experimenting with significant but shorter lead times, ideas including new and updated abilities for some existing support heroes.
