Pedestrian killed by subway train near Arlington Heights

A Metra UP-NW train struck and killed a pedestrian near Arlington Heights Wednesday morning, causing major delays and halting some operations, officials said.

Around 5:50 a.m., train No. 603 hit a pedestrian near the railroad crossing at North Ridge Avenue and Northwest Highway, causing inbound and outbound train traffic to stop, according to police and Metra.

The Metra Police Department was investigating and expected the crossing to be closed for several hours, according to the Arlington Heights Police Department.

Services resumed shortly after 8am
