Washington (CBS) – On Thursday, the Office of Food and Drug Administration announced that it restricts who can get the vaccine against COVID-19 Johnson & Johnson.
The reason – a rare but serious risk of blood clots.
The FDA says the Johnson & Johnson disposable vaccine should only be given to adults who cannot get another vaccine or who specifically request the J&J vaccine.
Last April, the FDA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suspended the Johnson & Johnson vaccine due to fears about a blood clot. Clinics on sites like the University of Chicago switched to Pfizer shot.
But the pause lasted only a few days, and then the use of the J&J vaccine resumed.
