CHICAGO (CBS) – A 17-year-old boy was accused of stealing a food delivery driver’s car in October in the South Austin area under gunfire.
Police said the boy was arrested by a car theft task force on Wednesday in Little Village after he was identified as one of the people who kidnapped a 42-year-old man at gunpoint when the victim was delivering food in the 1,000 quarter north. Menard Avenue on October 12, 2021.
The boy is charged with one article on vehicle theft.
In October, police said at least three times food delivery drivers were robbed after someone called to deliver food to the same neighborhood.
Thefts of cars took place:
- Oct. 8 around 11:30 p.m.
- Oct. 12 about 2 p.m.
- October 23 around 20.30
Every time the car was stolen, someone called to order food at 1051 N. Menard Avenue, and when the delivery driver arrived, they were robbed and driven away.
It was not immediately clear whether the teenager accused of stealing the car on October 12 would be charged in any other cases, or whether there were other arrests or charges of these car thefts.
