Tidal Removes Streaming App from Samsung TVs

Tidal has announced its decision to discontinue its music streaming app on Samsung TVs, following similar moves in recent weeks involving Roku and Amazon Fire TV products.

In a statement, Tidal confirmed that starting July 8, 2024, its app will no longer be accessible on Samsung Smart TVs. Users are encouraged to continue enjoying their music by logging in to Tidal through their computer, downloading the mobile app, or exploring other streaming options.

This change will specifically affect TVs running on Tizen OS from next month onwards. Despite this withdrawal, Tidal remains accessible through various other TV brands and streaming devices, including Android TV, Google Chromecast, Apple TV, and Sonos speakers.

In addition to this platform adjustment, Tidal has announced a strategic shift away from MQA (Master Quality Authenticated) tracks in favor of FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec) formatted files starting July 24. Alongside this shift, the subscription costs for Tidal have been significantly reduced, dropping from £20 per month to £11.

These adjustments reflect Tidal’s ongoing efforts to optimize its service offerings and align with evolving consumer preferences in the competitive streaming market. Users impacted by the removal of Tidal from Samsung Smart TVs are encouraged to explore alternative methods to continue enjoying high-quality music streaming through Tidal’s versatile platform.
