Violence in Chicago: 24 shot, 6 fatal, shootings over weekend in the city, police say

CHICAGO (WLS) – At least 24 people have been shot dead, six fatally, as a result of violence over the weekend in Chicago, police said.

A man was shot Sunday night while standing in the kitchen of a house in West Town. A 20-year-old man was standing in the kitchen at 2100 West Maple Avenue at about 9:35 p.m. when he was hit in the back by a gun from an alley, Chicago police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he later died, police said. No one was in custody.

The child was shot Sunday night in southwest Chicago, the Chicago Police Department said. The shooting took place at about 8:43 pm in the Malaya Veska district, police said. A 12-year-old boy was standing on the sidewalk in 3300 West 21st Street when two male offenders fired shots, police said. The child was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition by the Chicago Fire Department with a gunshot wound to the right ankle. No one was detained by the police, and zone 4 detectives are conducting an investigation.

A man was killed in a shooting in West Englewood on Sunday night, police said. A 20-year-old guy was standing on the sidewalk in the 1200 West 72nd Place quarter around 7:44 p.m. when a passenger in a red SUV shot. The victim was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center with multiple gunshot wounds to the head and pronounced dead. No one was detained, and the investigative bodies of the 1st zone are investigating.

A woman had been shot dead in South Londale hours earlier, police said. Around 12:48 a 27-year-old girl received a gunshot wound to the left armpit in the 2300 quarter on South Trumbull Avenue and crossed to Mount Sinai on her own, where she was pronounced dead. SATURDAY

Two men were killed and another was injured shooting on the far south side of Chicago On Saturday, police said. A few hours later around 11:15 p.m., a man and woman, ages 54 and 28, were found on the ground with gunshot wounds in the 700th quarter of East 73rd Street Greater Grand Crossing, around 11:15 p.m. The woman was shot dead throughout her body and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where she was in critical condition, officials said. The man was shot in the right calf and was taken to the same hospital in good condition.

This past weekend, 32 people were shot, seven fatally, as a result of gun use incidents across the city.
