COOK COUNTY, IL — Two former Cook County prosecutors have been indicted on 14 counts following a year-and-a-half investigation by a special prosecutor.

Lawrence Oliver was appointed to the position in July 2021 after the district attorney admitted to having a relationship with a key witness in the case. Now, a former assistant state attorney is facing charges including perjury, obstruction of justice, local records act violations and malfeasance, while another former assistant state attorney faces charges of official misconduct.

The judge who ordered the special prosecutor to be brought in initially said in 2021 that there was enough evidence that the lawyer had committed perjury and other state attorneys general could have covered for him.

It was the second special counsel appointed to investigate Kim Foxx’s office in about two years. The latter found abuse of authority right Jussie Smollett.
