Weather service issues high wind warning as gusty conditions blow across region – Chicago Tribune

Weather officials issued a high wind warning Saturday morning in effect until 7 p.m. for parts of central, east central and northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana.

South winds are expected to be between 25 and 35 mph, with gusts up to 65 mph, and officials are warning that the wind could bring down trees and power lines, causing outages and disrupting some vehicles.

Winds up to 65 mph are expected from dawn to noon, National Weather Officials warned.

Officials said people should avoid being outdoors in wooded areas with trees and branches, and if possible stay on lower floors of homes and avoid windows during the storm.

So far, officials have reported 65 mph gusts on I-94; Lewis Airport 65 mph, Sugar Grove 52 mph, Midway and O’Hare Airports 52 mph, Chicago Garrison-Dever Cribb 52 mph and Montrose Harbor 50 mph.

If you must drive, use caution, officials said.

Saturday’s conditions also include rain and temperatures between 59 and 62 degrees. At night, the temperature is expected to drop to at least 40-42 degrees.
