The number of new HIV and AIDS cases diagnosed in Chicago is on the decline | Black voices | Chicago News

The number of new cases of HIV, AIDS diagnosed in Chicago is decreasing

The number of people newly diagnosed with HIV and AIDS has fallen to its lowest level in decades.

A new report from the Chicago Department of Public Health says that not only are fewer people being diagnosed, but more people already living with HIV-AIDS are achieving viral suppression. This means a better quality of life and makes it less likely that the virus will spread.

However, a gap in viral suppression remains between black Chicagoans with HIV and white Chicagoans.

“Chicago Tonight: Black Voices” is joined by Jerome Montgomery, executive director of Project Vida, and Dr. Maya Green, chief medical officer at Howard Brown Health, to talk about the latest numbers.
