Logan County’s Change of Mind About New Windmills | Main stories

Lincoln, Illinois. (WAND) – The recent approval of a new wind turbine project has created controversy for Logan County residents.

Earlier this month some residents considered a lawsuit to stop the project.

However, several community members have changed their minds about the upcoming project. During open remarks at a special meeting of the Logan County Board, some speakers who previously opposed the project actually favored adding the turbines, which were removed from the plan because of their proximity to wooded areas.

“Four of them mean a lot to our school, our township and our fire department,” the Lincoln County resident shared.

At the meeting, several members of the community expressed a request for the return of these turbines. The main reason was the need for the tax revenue that the wind farm would bring. Logan County Councilman Dr. David Hepler explained who will benefit from these additional funds.

“Schools are probably the most important aspect, as they probably should be. Rural fire districts are getting money, we heard that tonight. Park districts and townships are getting much needed infrastructure revenue,” Hepler said.

Dr. Hepler also mentioned using the natural resources available to the community and giving farmers the opportunity to add value to their farms.

At a special meeting, the board of directors voted seven to three to invite developers to consider relocating the four turbines recently removed.
