WILMINGTON, Delaware (AP) — President Joe Biden — accompanied by one of his granddaughters who voted for the first time — cast his ballot Saturday in the midterm elections.

In-person early voting began Friday in his home state of Delaware, where Biden regularly returns for the weekend. Democrats across the country are urging voters to use early voting, either by mail or at the polls, wherever possible to maximize turnout.

Biden said he feels good about the midterm elections, which will decide control of Congress for the next two years.

In the final days before the Nov. 8 election, Biden plans to ramp up his campaign travel, planning trips to Pennsylvania, Florida, New Mexico and Maryland to speak for Democratic congressional and gubernatorial candidates.

“I will spend the rest of my time trying to prove that this is not a referendum. It’s a choice. A fundamental choice,” he said. “A choice between two very different visions of the country.”

Biden voted with his granddaughter Natalie, who is 18 years old. He also voted in Delaware last month when he made a short day trip to the state’s Sept. 13 primary.

There are no competitive congressional elections in Delaware this cycle.
