Illinois man sentenced to 120 years in prison for ‘horrific’ acts of child sex abuse

LAKE COUNTY, IL — A Lake County judge on Friday sentenced a 55-year-old man to more than 100 years in prison for sexually abusing a minor over a six-year period.

In July, a jury found Michael Maine guilty of six counts of sexual assault on a child and 11 counts of sexual assault. Libertyville police investigated Maine after the victim notified authorities in August 2016.

Prosecutors said police arrested Mayne shortly afterward, and he has remained in jail since then.

During the sentencing, victim impact statements described Mayne’s actions as “inhumane,” “heinous” and “horrific.” A Lake County judge called Maine’s actions “despicable” and sentenced him to 120 years in prison.

“This criminal will never be able to harm anyone in our community again,” State’s Attorney Eric Rinehart said. “We hope that this maximum sentence will help the survivors in their recovery process and we will continue to support them.”
