Adele Talks Broadway Prospects, Just a Tony Away from EGOT Status – Deadline

Adele there’s only one Tony Award left EGO status, but the multi-award winning performer says she’s not the biggest Broadway fan.

“I thought that. I can’t lie guys, I’m not a huge Broadway fan,” Adele said at the release of her “I Drink Wine” music video. The World of Broadway. “I know, I know. But I’m talking about musicals because I’ve seen a few plays, but I don’t think I’ve seen enough.”

Over the course of her career, Adele has won numerous Grammys, won an Oscar for Skyfall, and recently won an Emmy for her CBS concert special. The singer has come up with an idea that could win her a Tony Award now that she’s gearing up for it start your Las Vegas residency which was postponed due to COVID.

“I don’t think I’ve seen enough [Broadway] as an adult to know if I want to do it. I was wondering if it was just a matter of taking the show from Vegas to Broadway and winning a Tony? I actually prefer the sound of the EGO to the EGOT. EGO is fun. But never say never. If I move to New York, I’ll be bored, I’ll be on that stage in a heartbeat.”

However, Adele mentioned that there was one musical with the song in which she thought she could really prove her mettle.

“I saw [Gypsy] in London, and I really liked the role of my mother in it,” she recalled. “She has a song where she’s like, ‘I wanted to do all this,’ and she’s jealous of her own daughter, and she’s really excited about it. At one point, she was just a bitch that I could nail.”
