Elon Musk is appointed sole director of Twitter, dissolves the board of directors | WGN 720 Radio

(A hill) – Elon Musk has been named sole director of Twitter, dissolving its board of directors before it completes its $44 billion acquisition of the company, the social media platform said in a securities filing on Monday.

Musk became the sole director of the company “in accordance with the terms of the Merger Agreement,” the company told the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Twitter board member Brett Taylor, Parag Agrawal, Amid Kardestani, David Rosenblatt, Martha Lane Fox, Patrick Pichette, Egan Durban, Faye-Faye Li and Mimi Alemaehau will no longer serve on the board of directors, the company said.

Dissolving the board is one of a number of changes the Tesla billionaire and SpaceX CEO has made since taking ownership of the company last week, completing a six-month process.

After the acquisition, so did Musk he reportedly let go of some of the company’s top executivesincluding Chief Executive Officer Agrawal, CFO Ned Segal and Vijaya Gadde, head of legal policy.

Musk’s ownership raised concerns from critics that he would reverse content moderation policies in a way that would lead to more hate-mongering and misinformation on the platform. The Washington Post reported Friday that racist and anti-Semitic tweets quickly spread on Twitter after Musk’s capture.

Musk may also allow users whose accounts have been banned in the past, including former President Trump, to return to the platform. On Friday Musk said that he plans to create “a content moderation board with a wide variety of viewpoints” and that “no major decisions on content,” including account reinstatement, will take place until the board convenes.

There is a mask it also reportedly plans to start charging users $20 per month to have a verified account.
