Grand jury indicts David DePaipe in assault on Paul Pelosi – Chicago Tribune

David Depape, the intruder, accused of catches the eye A federal grand jury has indicted House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband for hitting her in the head with a hammer.

The charges coincide with charges brought against De Pape on Oct. 31 by the Justice Department of attempting to kidnap a US official and assaulting a family member of a US official in retaliation for her performance of duties.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in San Francisco announced the charges Wednesday, a week after DePape pleaded not guilty in state court to charges brought by the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office that include attempted murder, burglary and false imprisonment of an elderly person. In both cases, DePaip faces up to a decade in prison if convicted.

Police allege that DePaipe broke into Pelosi’s home on the morning of October 28 to take her hostage. She was in Washington, DC at the time. DePape allegedly assaulted her husband, Paul, after a verbal confrontation and struggle.

Prosecutions often begin with complaints backed up by sworn statements by law enforcement officers, and are then replaced by indictments, in which a civilian jury, represented by prosecutors, votes on whether to file charges.
