“Illinois is a welcoming state”: Chicago accepts 32 more migrants from the Texas border

CHICAGO — The city of Chicago took in 32 more migrants Wednesday, bringing the total to 3,716 asylum seekers who arrived by bus from the Texas border.

According to the city, the families were immediately provided with shelter and support to meet basic needs, including basic management and connection to the services of many community agencies.

The city of Chicago released a statement saying:

“We have a responsibility to provide shelter, food and medical care for every individual and family – many of whom have walked hundreds of miles, moving through great danger through different countries, in pursuit of safety and opportunity in the United States. Illinois is a welcoming state. We strive to help every family and individual by providing human services with respect and dignity.”
