Myst Remake Developers Announce Riven Remake; Now in development

RIven, the legendary sequel to the equally legendary Myst, will get its remake from the developers of Cyan. It will be seen as a remake from the ground up and will include a fully passable 3D world along with several other improvements. Currently, the team has announced that the game is in development.

For those who are not aware. RIven is the second game in the Myst series. It should take place right after the events of Myst, when Atrus (the character who helped you in the game’s best ending) asks for your help to free his wife from the power-hungry Geno. This game was born as a point-and-click adventure game with an immersive environment.

Now, the Cyan development team has confirmed that they are working on a remake of this legendary game. You can see the announcement trailer that was posted on Cyan’s Twitter page below:

According to Cyan, the Riven remake will be fully available in 3D, very much like a remake of Myst. Any other supported navigation methods will be announced at a later date. So, you should expect to see and explore these wonderful surroundings. Of course, puzzles will also return in this game, as the player will have to travel through the Age of Riven and solve puzzles to access new areas.

Unfortunately, we don’t know much about the upcoming Riven remake, as Cyan has stated that more information about the release date, available platforms, system specs, and more will be revealed at a later date. However, they also noted that this is not a Starry Expanse project. The development team responsible for this remake was assisted only by the team behind the Starry Expanse project.

This also means that players who already own Riven will not get free access to this game. This new Riven is not an update or upgrade; it’s a modern remake from the ground up that required (and will require) a significant investment of resources.
