Organizations are coming together for a turkey giveaway at 9 Chicago locations

CHICAGO — With less than a week until Thanksgiving, one of Chicago’s largest turkey giveaways arrived at nine different locations Sunday, benefiting the community.

Bill Crane was one of many at the Vault Gallerie in Pilsen, with several other organizations helping to join forces.

What started as a small turkey giveaway on the Sunday before Thanksgiving at West 87thousand The street and South Vincennes Avenue grew exponentially in 2013, but so did the need.

Bill Crane, ad Crane world TV, said rising inflation has also affected the cost of buying a turkey for Thanksgiving dinner. According to Crane, the price of the birds was about $7 when they started the event. They have since risen to $30 per turkey.

“Times are tough. [It’s] It’s a cold day here and over 1,000 families are being blessed, Crane said.

Volunteers not only donated their time and cold turkeys, but also fresh produce.

“You’ll see people hugging, crying, I mean the emotion and the excitement that they’re going to have food at the holidays so they can sit down at the table and tell some story with their family with warm food in their bellies, it’s just a beautiful thing,” Crane said.
