River Oaks Mall will reopen Friday; suspects are being sought

CALUMETTE CITY, ILLINOIS — River Oaks Mall is scheduled to reopen Friday after a security guard was shot Wednesday, mall officials said.

Police in the city of Calumet continue to search for suspects in the murder of 57-year-old Norman Thomas.

Three men entered the River Oaks Mall, shot Thomas and broke into the Flawless Diamond Store, stealing jewelry and watches.

Thomas was an Army veteran and the “glue” that held everyone together, a family member said.

The mall will not reopen, according to police, but mall officials say they will.
