Sam’s Club is reducing the Hot Dog Combo to $1.38
TYLER, TX (KETK) – Sam’s Club has decided to drop its hot dog combo from $1.50 to $1.38, nearly 10% lower.
“New lower price. Same great hot dog and drink. And the free refills are still rolling,” Sam’s Club says on its website. “Honestly, it can’t be beat.”
Douglas McMillon, CEO and President of Walmart, Inc.– said Tuesdayin that the decision is meant to help “families stretch their cash as we head into the holidays.”
Costco offers the same combo for $1.50, a price that has remained the same since the deal was made in the mid-1980s.
In addition to lowering the price of hot dogs, McMillan said Sam’s Club eliminates inflation on many traditional Thanksgiving foods, with whole turkeys selling for less than $1 a pound.
“Regardless of income level, families are now more price conscious, so it’s more important than ever that we earn their trust with value,” McMillon said.
Americans are bracing for an expensive Thanksgiving this year with double-digit price hikes for turkey, potatoes, stuffing, canned pumpkin and other food items. According to US government estimates, food prices will rise by 9.5-10.5% this year; historically they have only grown by 2% annually.
Lower production and higher costs for labor, transportation and materials are part of the reason; illness, bad weather and the war in Ukraine also contribute.
