Trevor Noah claims ‘misunderstood’ over UK PM Rishi Sunak’s comments – Deadline

Trevor Noah says his comments are against “some people”. Rishi SunakThe race-based appointment of the UK prime minister is accurate.

Noah’s comments on The Daily Show sparked outrage in several sectors of society, most notably commentators Piers Morgan.

Noah pointed out that Sunak’s appointment drew a backlash based on skin color. Sunak is a British native born in the UK to parents who came to the country from India. Many have taken Noah’s comments as a blanket indictment of everyone in the UK, missing the ‘certain people’ part.

Sunak is the first Hindu Prime Minister of Great Britain and the first Asian Prime Minister. It is also the youngest in more than 200 years.

In a video posted on Twitter by The Daily Show, the 38-year-old South African comedian claimed that there are people saying: “Now the Indians are going to take over the UK.”

Morgan was one of the most vocal detractors of the claim, arguing that Noah “falsely portrayed Britain as a racist country”.

It started back and forth.

“I didn’t say, ‘All of Britain is racist,'” Noah claimed. “I was responding to the racists who don’t want Rishi to become Prime Minister because of his race… That’s why I said ‘Some people’. »

Morgan wasn’t buying it. “No come on Trevor… there was no ‘backlash’ in the UK to Rishi Sunak becoming Prime Minister because of his heritage. You made it up to create a narrative of racism that simply didn’t exist… and us Brits are fed up with the American media (and disingenuous duchesses) making us out to be a bunch or racists.’
