Two people in a car were killed in a crash involving a school bus in Kane

Two people in an SUV were killed after the vehicle crashed into a school bus carrying 24 students Monday afternoon in Kane County, officials said.

As a result of the accident, none of the bus passengers were injured.

Around 3:45 p.m., Kane County Sheriff’s deputies and Campton Hills Police were dispatched to Empire Road and Kingswood Drive in unincorporated Campton Township for reports of a crash between a vehicle and a school bus.

Kane County Sheriff Ron Hein said the initial investigation indicates a 2013 Lexus SUV was traveling eastbound on Empire Road when it struck the back of a school bus.

Of the four people in the Lexus, two were killed and two were seriously injured, officials said.

“It appears that there was no attempt to brake and both were traveling in the same direction,” Hayne said of the crash.

The bus was taking students home from Lily Lake Grade School, which has students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Central Community Unit School District 301 said on Twitter that the students were released to their families after the crash.

“During the next few days, medical assistance will be provided to all those affected,” district officials said.

Hayne said more information about the crash will be released at a later date. The cause of the crash is still being investigated.
