Garcia plans to run for mayor, sources say

CHICAGO — Sources have confirmed to WGN News that Congressman Jesus “Chewy” Garcia plans to run for mayor of the City of Chicago.

He will make a statement on Thursday.

This will be the congressman’s second attempt to run for mayor after forcing former Mayor Rahm Emanuel into a runoff in 2015. Garcia lost that election by 12 percentage points, but the race boosted his political profile, paving the way for a run for Congress.

Garcia cruised to victory last night, winning his re-election bid by 4thousand Congressional district. He won the seat in 2018, replacing former congressman Luis Gutierrez. Garcia also served as Chicago alderman, Illinois state senator, and Cook County commissioner.
