US Representative Brad Schneider wins the 10th Congressional District
The Associated Press has declared Democratic incumbent Brad Schneider won the 10th Congressional District.
This year’s campaign saw Schneider of Highland Park try to retain his 10th District seat against Republican challenger Joseph Severino of Lake Forest.
Traditionally Republican district first flipped Democrats in 2012, when voters chose Schneider over then-incumbent Republican Bob Dold. But Dold beat Schneider two years later before voters sent Schneider back to Washington, D.C., in 2016 after he beat Dold a second time.
The predominantly North Shore area, left largely untouched by recent redistricting after the 2022 Census, now extends further into the northwestern suburbs into McHenry County and north to the Wisconsin border.
Both general election candidates ran unopposed in the June primary, but Schneider garnered nearly 53,000 votes in his landslide victory, compared to about 34,000 votes for Severin, who won the GOP nomination.
Severino, the former CEO of a hotel company, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy to restructure more than $1 million in debts. He called for economic recovery and tax cuts, as well as a crackdown on crime and the introduction of term limits.
