14 shots fired in 3 seconds: Police search for suspects in Halloween drive-by shooting
CHICAGO — Fourteen people, including two children and a teenager, were shot and killed on Halloween night in the CWest Side Gigago on a shooting drive According to police, it lasts only three seconds.
Several people were attending a vigil for a man who died of natural causes Monday around 9:30 p.m., when two men began shooting from a passing SUV, police said.
On Tuesday, Mayor Laurie Lightfoot issued a statement saying: “Last night terror claimed the lives of 14 people, including 3 children, in another tragic display of gun violence by cowards who fired indiscriminately into crowds. The shooters have no concerns for the lives of the injured adults and children, but I urge people of good will who have information to come forward. none of us can remain silent in the face of such a tragedy. Lightfoot said she was in “constant contact.” Police Superintendent David Brown and detectives discovered the video and spoke to victims and witnesses.
The youngest victim was a 3-year-old boy. He was shot in both legs and was taken to hospital in critical condition, police said.
An 11-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy were taken to the hospital in serious condition.
Two men, 37 and 48 years old, were taken to the hospital in serious condition. A 37-year-old man was shot in the torso. Police said a 48-year-old man was shot in the head.
A 56-year-old woman was taken to the hospital in serious condition with a gunshot wound to the torso.
Four women aged 35, 40, 47 and 48 were taken to the hospital in good condition.
Police said a 32-year-old woman was self-transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg and is in good condition.
A 31-year-old man was injured in the leg and was taken to hospital in good condition.
A 51-year-old man was taken to hospital with a gunshot wound to the torso and is in critical condition.
A woman of unknown age and condition was also wounded in the torso.
Additionally, police said a woman tried to flee the scene and was hit by a car while crossing the road. She was taken to the hospital in satisfactory condition.
“Last night’s shooting reminds us that there are too many military weapons available to criminals. We must have a statewide ban, and I urge the Legislature to act,” Lightfoot said in a statement.
Police said the shooting was caught on camera. No one is in custody.
A $15,000 reward is offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
