A map of New Cook County shows locations where bats have tested positive for rabies

COOK COUNTY, IL — Cook County authorities have released an interactive Halloween-themed map to raise awareness about rabies prevention.

It shows the locations where 11 bats in Cook County have tested positive this year.

Rabies can spread when pets are exposed to the virus. They can spread it to other pets and people through bites or scratches, and if left untreated, the infection can be fatal.

Cook County offers the rabies vaccine at a low cost and free of charge. The last vaccine study of the year will take place on Saturday, November 5.
