COPA released video of the officer’s fatal shooting
CHICAGO — The Office of Civilian Police Accountability has released video and other materials related to the fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred today in October.
The video was taken Oct. 2 in Old Town near the 400 block of West Blackhawk Street and began when officers received a report of a man pointing a gun at people nearby, police said.
Officers soon identified the man and pursued him on foot. After officers took the man into custody, one officer fired a Taser twice, but did not make contact with the man, police said.
As the man continued to run, he fired his weapon at the officer, police said. The officer then returned fire, shooting the man.
According to COPA, the investigation into this incident is ongoing and upon completion, COPA will release its findings in accordance with municipal ordinance.
