CPD is looking for answers after three shootings of young men
Compared to this time last year, the number of homicides involving persons under the age of 17 has increased
CHICAGO — Gun violence in Chicago is affecting young people in the city at a statistically higher rate than it did this time last year.
So far in 2022, 58 young people under the age of 17 have been victims of homicide, compared to last year, when 51 young people in the same demographic were killed at the hands of another person.
In the past week alone, CPD is still searching for answers in three separate cases involving young victims.
Inside the North Lawndale Laundromat, CPD said two suspects walked in and opened fire, critically injuring a 15-year-old boy last monday.
Three days later, Quentin Branch and Michael Hance—two 13-year-olds— were killed in a shooting in Roseland near the 11400 block of South Calumet Avenue.
Then late Sunday night a A 15-year-old Austin-area girl was one of three killed in the 5400 block of West Augusta Blvd.. Police said she was shot in the head and later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Police did not announce an arrest in any of the three cases.
