Darius Coffey gets life in prison for killing pregnant woman | Main stories
DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) – Darius R. Coffey pleaded guilty to killing a pregnant woman on Tuesday.
Coffey pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and manslaughter of an unborn child.
Coffey was arrested following a manhunt by US Marshals and the Springfield Police Department after they served a warrant on a charge of first degree murder.
Authorities say officers responded to the 1300 block of N. Walnut Grove Avenue around 7:30 p.m. on May 9 after receiving reports of shots fired in the area.
When they arrived at the scene, they found Shayanne S. Foster, 25, with multiple gunshot wounds. Police said she was dead when officers arrived.
An autopsy revealed Foster died of multiple gunshot wounds to the head and extremities. Foster was pregnant when she was killed.
Coffey will serve a life sentence.
