Fetterman leads Oz by 5 points in Pennsylvania Senate race: Poll

(A hill) — Pennsylvania Democratic Senate candidate John Fetterman leads Republican Mehmet Oz by 5 points, according to a New York Times/Siena College poll published more than a week before election day.

About 49 percent of voters polled support Fetterman, while 44 percent favor Oz.

The results are similar to other polls showing the Democratic candidate’s lead over Oz for much of the campaign. with an advantage of 6 points in a poll last week.

But the latest poll comes after Fetterman struggled on stage during a debate against Oz last week.

The Democrat is still recovering from a stroke he suffered in May and has difficulty processing his hearing, which led to verbal errors and clumsy responses during the debate.

Still, about 50 percent of Pennsylvania voters have a favorable view of Fetterman, according to a New York Times/Siena College poll.

By comparison, about 49 percent of likely voters favor Oz.

The poll shows that a majority of Pennsylvanians say the economy is the top issue in the midterm elections, with 50 percent naming it as their top issue.

Only 34 percent see social issues like abortion, gun control and democracy as top issues in the midterm elections.

The New York Times/Siena College poll was conducted Oct. 24-26 among 620 likely voters. The margin of error is 4.4 percentage points.
