Donald and his wife Erica just signed with Donda Sports earlier this year and called it a “no brainer.” However, as a result of anti-Semitic statements of the West and major companies such as Adidas have cut ties with the rapper, Donald decided to follow their example and also break off the relationship.
The statement continued: “As parents and members of the community, we felt a responsibility to send a clear message that hateful words and actions have consequences and that we must be better as people. We do not believe that our beliefs, voices, and actions belong in a space that distorts and oppresses people of any background, ethnicity, or race.”
Earlier this year, Donald seemed thrilled to be working with West at Donda Sports and said he was drawn to the family atmosphere.
“I think it’s a great opportunity to open a lot of different doors and a lot of different things outside of football that I want to be involved in, that I want to do, that my wife wants to do. So to be a part of that, and to be one of the best first-time athletes to be a part of that, it’s pretty dope. We’re excited about it and we’ll see where it goes,” he said Sports Illustrated.
Jaylen Brown of the Boston Celtics has also announced that he is ending his relationship with Donda Sports.
