“I’m sick of it…” Lightfoot says of the Colorado nightclub shooting

CHICAGO — Mayor Lori Lightfoot spoke out against the mass shooting that took place in Colorado Springs LGBTQ+ nightclub on Sunday mornings.

Lightfoot tweeted:

“I’m sick of this shit. How many people should be killed? How many lives have been torn apart? Until it really stops? We don’t have to live like this. And we don’t have to die like that.”

A gunman opened fire at a gay nightclub in Colorado Springs, killing five people and wounding 18 before he was subdued by patrons and arrested by police who arrived about five minutes later, police said Sunday.

The violence marked the sixth mass killing this month in a year that has left the country reeling from the deaths of 21 people in a school shooting in Uwald, Texas.

Although the motive for the shooting was not yet clear, as was the gender of the victims, the incident occurred amid increased anti-gay rhetoric from extremists. In a statement, Club Q called the shooting a hate attack.
