Oprah Winfrey’s endorsement of Fetterman highlighted in new ad from Democratic Super PAC

(A hill) – A Democratic superparty PAC has launched a new ad showcasing Oprah Winfrey’s endorsement of Pennsylvania Lt. Gov. John Fetterman (D) in the state Senate race against Republican Mehmet Oz, a frequent appearance on her popular daytime show.

advertising, of Senate Majority PAC, says Winfrey knows Oz “better than anyone” but won’t vote for him, citing comments Winfrey made in a virtual town hall Thursday.

“If I lived in Pennsylvania, I would have already cast my vote for John Fetterman” Oprah said at the event.

The super PAC’s ad continues to attack Oz, claiming he’s “got rich” promoting “fake” drugs and citing remarks he reportedly made in May when he called abortion “murder.” NBC News.

“It’s no surprise that Oprah is taking on Oz,” the ad says.

“If she doesn’t trust Oz, why should you?” it concludes.

Oz appeared frequently on Winfrey’s talk show before starting his own program, The Dr. Oz Show, in 2009.

The Oz Show – which received criticism for promoting certain products that he claimed could produce a medical “miracle” — expired in January after he announced his bid for the Senate seat. In the run-up to the election, Fetterman tried several times to highlight this criticism.

Fetterman led Oz for most of the race, seeing him as an underdog from New Jersey. But in recent weeks, Oz has closed the gap and even overtook Fetterman leads the Emerson College and The Hill polls.

Fetterman has faced scrutiny over the lingering effects of a stroke he suffered days before winning the Democratic primary. During last month’s debate with Oz, he often struggled to craft clear sentences, but most respondents in a post-debate poll said it would not affect their decision about who to vote for.

Poll by FiveThirtyEight average as of Friday, Fetterman leads Oz by less than half a percentage point.
