The Powerball jackpot has grown to a record $1.9 billion after there was no winner
TAMPA, FL (WFLA) — The already record Powerball jackpot grew again Saturday night after yet again there was no winner.
Saturday night’s winning numbers were 28 – 45 – 53 – 56 – 69 for the white balls and 20 for the red Powerball.
On Friday, strong sales pushed the jackpot to $1.6 billion, making it the biggest lottery win in history, before it rose again to $1.9 billion overnight.
The previous record for the biggest lottery win was a jackpot of $1.585 billion, which was installed in January 2016.
The Powerball prize keeps getting more massive due to the inability of anyone to overcome the great odds of 1 in 292.2 million and win the jackpot. Players must match all five white balls and one red Powerball to claim the top prize.
That’s not to say everyone was a loser on Saturday night. The Florida Lottery website reported a $1 million winner in the Sunshine State on Sunday morning. The $1 million prize is for whoever matches all five numbers without Powerball.
The next draw will take place on Monday evening.
Since someone won the prize on August 3rd, there have been 40 draws without a winner.
Lottery jackpot winners usually prefer a lump sum of cash, which for Monday’s drawing will be $929.1 million, according to the California Lottery website.
Powerball is played in 45 states, as well as in Washington, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.
