Off-duty suburban police officer, civilian, shot and killed in traffic accident on Far South Side

An off-duty suburban police officer and a man were shot and killed in a traffic accident on the city’s south side Saturday night, officials said.

It happened around 6:15 p.m. in the 10300 block of South Crandon Avenue, Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford said.

When the traffic accident happened, shots were fired and the off-duty officer, a woman, was shot and killed along with another man, Langford said. An officer went to a nearby Chicago 4th Precinct police station, and police took her to the University of Chicago Medical Center, Langford said. Her condition was not known.

The man who was shot suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken by ambulance to the University of Chicago Medical Center. Two other people injured in the crash were taken to Trinity Hospital and are expected to survive, Langford said.
