Twitter’s head of safety and integrity warns of ‘concerted effort’ to crack down on hateful behavior – Deadline
Responding to reports that unknown factions are stepping up efforts to post racial slurs, initiate trolling and engage in “hateful conduct,” TwitterThe head of security and integrity has warned that the service is “taking action” to tackle such organized movements.
Since Elon MuskFollowing the takeover of the service, those opposed to his promise to increase free speech on the platform have reportedly increased their presence on several popular political accounts. Thousands of accounts are brand new to Twitter.
Apparently, the goal would be to flood those accounts with inflammatory content, creating the impression that Musk is creating a “hellscape,” something the new owner told advertisers he would seek to avoid.
Earlier research by a liberal-leaning firm claimed an exponential rise in racial slurs on the site after Musk’s purchase.
LeBron James is one of the alarmists regurgitating the report, which claims a “500%” rise in racial slurs on the supposedly highly policed service. A 500% increase would mean that insults have increased sixfold since Musk’s takeover.
Twitter’s Head of Security and Integrity Joel Roth said the firm had not abandoned its monitoring efforts during the change in ownership. Musk himself has promised not to reinstate those previously banned — including former President Donald Trump, Kanye West and political activist Steve Bannon — and to discuss the parameters of content moderation with a newly formed “council” before making any sweeping changes.
“Twitter’s policy hasn’t changed,” Roth said. “Hateful behavior has no place here. And we’re taking steps to stop organized efforts to make people think we did it.”
